Daniel Pearl Music Day Show at the Lizard Lounge, MA

Harmony-for-Humanity-Poster-2013-Final_smallWe are returning to New England again this year at one of the most beautiful times to be there- early fall. We have a handful of shows, and will catch up with good friends while there. This year, however, is a bit more exciting as we have been asked to participate in the 2nd Annual Daniel Pearl Music Day Show at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA. The show takes place on October 10th, Daniel Pearl’s birthday.

If his name sounds familiar but you can’t quite place it, Daniel Pearl was an American journalist with the Wall Street Journal who was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by Al-Qaeda in Pakistan in 2002 at the age of 38. His family has since started the Daniel Pearl World Music Days as a way to honor his memory. From their website:

Daniel Pearl World Music Days is an international network of concerts that use the power of music to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance and humanity. Since 2002, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has grown to include the participation of more than 10,000 performances in 129 countries. World Music Days is an awareness-raising program, not a fundraiser. There is no financial obligation to participate and all musicians are welcome.

The show we are taking part in is the brainchild of Dino Cattaneo, who shares not only Daniel Pearl’s outlook on tolerance and humanity, but also his birthday, and love for music. You can read about it and his thoughts on what this show means on his wife Susan Cattaneo’s blog. It’s well worth the read.

We are looking forward to this show! There’s an awesome house band, and the format is that different artists will get up and sing 3 covers with the band. We picked songs from The Band, Lucinda Williams, and Neil Young, and can’t WAIT to front a band! Looking forward to hearing the other artists’ selections as well, and enjoying a great night of music for a very worth while cause.
