Trade Shows for Folk Music

That’s right- there are trade shows for folk music. And we just attended one near Asheville, NC in beautiful Montreat for a long weekend. SERFA (Southeast Regional Folk Alliance) is one of the smaller, regional shows that are all part of Folk Alliance International. These shows are attended by musicians, publicists. talent buyers, venues, managers, music lovers, and if you are really lucky, maybe a massage therapist. There are workshops by day, and a lot of sharing of stories and ideas, networking, etc. But at night, the showcases begin, and the music gets going around 10 and stops (or takes a momentary break) sometimes as late as 4am. And yet somehow, at the end of the weekend, all the sleep deprived attendees feel rejuvenated.
